back in action!

dear worldwideweb

it’s been over a year! and i can’t tell you how often how i’ve planned on getting back on top of my documentation, announcements and other such craft related reports, when everything just picks up again so quickly that it’s impossible stay up to date.

so since i left new zealand in may ’07, moonshine washingline has turned into a totally portable and pretty much hat- exclusive series of extravaganzas that have had me borrowing sewing machines and collecting, transporting and transforming fabric everywhere between indonesia, hawaii, and now oregon! for the past few months I’ve been On Tour all over the states with my husband, who plays music under the name Jacob Perkins & The Nobody, and I’ve been keeping an online tour diary, Champ Tours the New World, so if you’re interested you can check that out. otherwise hopefully soon i’ll fill you in on the months before then, when we worked as permaculture gardeners on Maui for four months and all the underwater adventures we got up to, or before that when we went on a bit of an epic bicycle tour from Thailand, to Laos, to Vietnam, to Cambodia…oh how time flies when you’re having fun!

now i’m in portland and since i gave so many people the address of this website yesterday at the Alberta Street Fair, i thought, well maybe people will actually start checking this place out again and i BETTER make it worth their time! so hello! it was wonderful to get such great feedback yesterday, the fair was beautiful (AH! love this city), i can’t believe how sunburnt i am, AND…stay tuned because over the next couple of days i’m going to make the hats i have left available for sale online (!!!!) and i’ll be making some more in bigger sizes.

also, as i may have already told you, i will be in the u.s.of.a until the beginning of October, so if you’d like to make a custom order, please do let me know as soon as you can! the sooner the better because things are going to get a little wild pretty soon here as soon as all my best pals show up to converge for our friends’ wedding. but i would love to make you a hat. i love making hats when i know exactly who they’re going to. it’s like writing someone a good letter versus writing a blog out into the world wide web.

anyway, it’s good to be back! and i do plan on making one last Portland appearance at this month’s Last Thursday, which will be this year’s last Last Thursday (till next Summer!) so i hope to see you there. and don’t forget to e-mail me asap if you’d like me to make you a hat, moonshinewashingline@gmail.com

ps. some photos from my latest goings-ons…

For those of you who don’t know what Last Thursday is, it is when, on the last Thursday night of every month (before it gets cold and dark and rainy), some 30 blocks of Alberta street in NE Portland is overcome with artists of all sorts who set up on the sidewalk. Recently the city has decided to just shut down the whole street at this time so it’s turned into QUITE a party in the street, with all kinds of characters on multi-tiered bicycles, stilt walkers, capoeira doers, musicians, dancers, the works. It’s all kinds of fun. I did my first Last Thursday just days after arriving in the continental U.S., with some hats I had made in Hawaii, and sold nearly all of them! The paintings you see are by my friend Asa Kennedy, who as you also can see, is pretty damn awesome.
